The Penticton Safety Village has been a community hub for biking, events, and safety education for almost 40 years. Each year we welcome about 70 elementary school classes or about 1500 students into our facility where they educate through experiential, real-world practice. Classes come from over 50 km away to enjoy our quaint village.
The village has seen many changes since its creation. In 2022 we lost our classroom building during the construction of the highly-needed replacement of the Edmonton Avenue childcare center. The absence of the classroom now means there is no indoor space for educating the school groups onsite, as well as no space for private events to host their gathering indoors. We would like to rebuild a structure so we have an indoor space for these events and activities. We also need a shaded area for classes and events to enjoy the village during the hot days of Penticton and would like to build a shade structure in 2024. Both projects will need considerable planning and funding to be successfully completed.
In the Fall of 2024, The Penticton Safety Village will celebrate our 40th anniversary! The Penticton Safety Village Society consists of a volunteer Board of Directors, and our Village Manager who oversees the school programs, private events, securing grants, and much more. We will be planning fundraising events throughout 2024 to raise funding for the needed improvements, and are thrilled to be supported by Badgirl Branding to start our 40th year with a re-branding of our logo, website, and socials. Events such as the Penticton Who-Ville are only the beginning of our upcoming anniversary year to re-invigorate the Penticton Safety Village and continue to be a part of every Penticton childhood for many years to come.
